Exciting News

Ed and I have talked about having a baby for a few years now. It was always one of those, we'll try in a year or so. However, we have now decided to start planning an addition to our family soon! This page will be an area for us to keep track of our TTC (trying to conceive) adventures!

Heather's Health

Even though we have wanted to have a baby for awhile now, my health has stopped us. I was diagnoised with Diabetes a few years ago and have had a hard time trying to get it under control. It would not be safe for the baby for me to get pregnant with uncontrolled blood sugars. After talking with my doctor about wanting to have a baby, we have been working really hard on getting the blood sugars under control.

I also have some issues going on with my wrists and ankles, and have been tested to see what is going on there. We figure it is better to get things taken care of now while we are in the planning stages.

Prenatal Vitamins

I did some research online and read that it was better to start prenatal vitamins as soon as possible, especially with diabetes. So I started taking One A Day prenatal vitamins in the begining of August 2009.

Birth Control Pills

When I was talking with my Doctor, she asked when I was going to go off the birth control pills. I told her I wasn't sure, and asked what she suggested. She suggested going off them 3 months before we wanted to TTC. Since we want to TTC in the begining of 2010, I have gone off the pills as of September 12th, 2009!!

Basal Body Temperature

One of the things I have learned with all my research is that you need to know when you are ovulating. Did you know there is only a 24 hour period when you can get pregnant?? How did I not know this?? Anyways, one of the ways to tell when you are ovulating is to take your basal body temperature every day starting from the first day of your period. So I got to start doing this September 15th, 2009! Somewhere between 14-18 days from your first day of your period, you should ovulate. By taking your temperature, you will see a slight increase in temperature when you are ovulating. I know, pretty detailed, and TMI for the guys (if any are reading). By doing this for 2-3 months you should Know when you ovulate, and then you can make your game plan for TTC. I'm very exctied to be at this stage in our trying to conceive game plan!!!

September 17,2009

I'm trying not to get too excited, but for the past two days my blood sugars have been 100 less than they have been for years!! While that is good, I need to get them lowered about 90 more to be in the normal ranage. I'm not sure how long they will need be controlled like that before we can TTC, but at this point we still have 3 months to see how things go!
